Spencer, IA (KICD)– The update project for the movie theater in the Southpark Mall in Spencer appears to be a go at least when it comes to funding from the city and county.
The Spencer City Council and Clay County Board of Supervisors met in joint session on Monday to discuss the matter that will both update the existing auditoriums and add to new venues for a total of nine screens. During the brief discussion, Supervisor Allen Batschelet confirmed to City Councilman Brian Balk that the county is still on board with sharing some of the cost to make the project happen.
City Manager Dan Gifford noted that the money for the expansion and remodel would be handled in a reimbursement and invoice style of payment.
Work to upgrade the existing auditoriums to luxury recliner seating and the addition of the two new screens is expected to begin in January with the goal to have the project completed by sometime in the Spring.
