Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council met briefly in a Committee of the Whole setting Tuesday evening to decide how to move forward with filling a soon-to-be open elected seat as well as a staff position.
After some discussions at the county and state level, City Attorney Don Hemphill says finding someone either through appointment or special election to take over the Ward 2 seat currently held by the retiring Bill Orrison can be avoided by simply adjusting a date.
When it comes to filling the Finance Director position being vacated by next month’s departure of Brian Weuve, City Manager Dan Gifford says the city will turn to a former employee, at least temporarily.
The council seemed to support the idea of moving forward with having Councilman Orrison adjust his official resignation date rather than go through the lengthy process of finding someone to fill the seat for just a few months. The plan for an interim Finance Director will go to a formal vote next week to allow that transition to begin in early August.
