Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer City Council got an update on Monday from a group working to combat local homelessness.

Brittany Spieker from the Community Housing Access and Resource Team says while Spencer does not have “tent cities” like we see in bigger communities, there is a still a need for assistance for those without somewhere to go.

Spieker says some cases of local homelessness are the result of an eviction, but there are multiple other reasons that people are ending up on the streets.

CHART has been able to hire two part-time housing navigators that will work with those qualifying for the program find a place to go with one person on call at times.
