Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Tigers traveled up to Spirit Lake for some more non-District action.
Spirit Lake would get the scoring started on a Body Higgins 1 yard Touchdown run, giving them an early 7-0 lead. The Tigers would respond on the next drive though on a long Weston Johnson run.
The Tigers would get a stop, but their next offensive drive stalled out a half yard short of the line to gain. Spencer tried a fake punt, but would come up short, giving Spirit Lake the ball deep in Tiger territory. Spirit Lake would extend their lead to 14-6 when Will Dittsworth scored from 3 yards away.
Spirit Lake’s Ethan Stecker picked off a Cael Bruning pass on the Tigers next offensive drive, taking it all the way back for a touchdown, making the score 21-6 in favor of Spirit Lake going in to the half.
Spirit Lake scored on the opening drive of the second half on another Will Dittsworth Touchdown, making it 28-6.
The Tigers would respond though with another Weston Johnson Touchdown run.
Spirit Lake Quarterback Kaden Lundt answered with an 11 yard touchdown run on the next drive, making the score 35-14. Spencer hit right back on a big play from Adrian Carillo.
The Tigers needed a big stop on the next drive, and got it on a nice pass rush at Lundt.
The Tigers would drive the ball inside the Spirit Lake Red Zone, but a second interception would be thrown in the endzone. Spirit Lake would then charge down the field, and Will Dittsworth scored his 3rd touchdown of the game from 38 yards out. Spirit Lake would ad another pick-6 on a desperation throw, and came away wtih the 48-21 win against Spencer.
Weston Johnson led the Tigers with 100 yards on the ground and 2 touchdowns.
Spirit Lake’s Will Dittsworth had a big night, carrying the ball 15 times for 197 yards and 3 touchdowns. Dylan Stecker caught 7 passes for 104 yards in the win.
The Tigers fall to 0-3 on the year and will take on Sioux Center next week at home.
Spirit Lake improves to 2-1 and travels to Forest City next.
