Spencer, IA (KICD)– Spencer High School is putting the final touches on its Fall Musical that will open this weekend.

Abby Schmidt plays the lead role of Anya in “Anastasia” that transports the audience into the 1920s during the reign of the Russian Empire.

Playing opposite of Schmidt is Braxton Nachtigal as Dmitry who essentially starts as a villain type character in the story.

Also in the large cast and crew for Anastasia is Julia Gastellum who is seeing more a challenge this time around when it comes to character development.

“Anastasia” was overwhelmingly chosen by the students as this year’s musical and Drama Director Cara Gerlock says that may be partially because they were up for a new challenge with such a difficult production both on stage and technically.

The Spencer High School Drama Department will bring “Anastasia” to the stage Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 and Sunday afternoon at two all in the Larry M. Untiet Theatre. Tickets are available ahead of time or in person prior to each show.
