Spencer, IA (KICD)– Shovels were dug into the ground and dirt tossed on Wednesday morning as Spencer Hospital officially broke ground on its new Emergency Department.

Among the staff and local leaders on hand was Spencer Mayor Steve Bomgaars who tells KICD News getting a major upgrade to a facility like the hospital is beneficial for the entire community.

Bomgaars adds there is also the economic impact Spencer will see with the number of local workers hired to build the project.
