Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Instrumental Music programs for Spencer Community Schools had a premiere this week of not one but two specially commissioned musical selections.
The works were written by John Frantzen. He tells KICD News it is not uncommon to commission a special piece like this, but it is more rare to do so for school age groups.
Frantzen says he typically spends about a month and a half actually writing the piece trying take inspiration from the those involved as well as making sure the music is within the skill level of those playing it.
Frantzen was in town for the debut of each piece and says it really is a special treat to see his work come to life.
Students from Spencer Middle School premiered their commissioned piece on Monday evening with the High School publicly debuting music on Tuesday, both of which were final performances before directors Janet Boyens and Kurt Schwarck retire from teaching.
