Spencer, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Tigers Baseball team took on Cherokee Wednesday at Andy McGaffin Field in Spencer. I had the call on SMUnet.net and SMU Channel 3. Reid Tigges got the start for Spencer and Kael Miller got the pill for Cherokee.

The Tigers struck first in the 1st inning when AJ VerSteeg flew out to right field, bringing in Campbell Wessels from 3rd, giving Spencer a 1-0 lead.

Spencer would break the game open in the bottom of the 3rd inning, starting off when Jake Hallet drove in Reid Tigges.

Spencer would then score a run on an error, wild pitch, and fielders choice to make their lead 5-0 after the 3rd inning.

Reid Tigges continued to deal on the mound, after a bumpy start to the game, didn’t face more than 4 batters in an inning after the 1st.

Tigges ended his day with 5 innings pitched, allowing 4 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks, and struck out 10.

Logan Huckfelt led off the bottom of the 5th inning, and turned on a pitch.

The home run was Huckfelt’s second on the year, and only the first of last night’s 5th inning for the Tigers. After Jaxon Hefner was driven in on a Campbell Wessels single, Reid Tigges came to the plate with 2 men on and a 7-0 lead.

Reid Tigges is credited for the win. Kael Miller takes the loss for Cherokee, throwing 4.2 innings, allowing 11 hits, 10 runs, 8 earned runs, 4 walks, and striking out 2.

Kael Miller was also the top offensive performer for the Braves with 2 hits in 3 plate appearances.

Reid Tigges continues his incredible start to the season, hitting the home run in 4 plate appearances, 2 hits, 2 runs scored, 2 walks, 3RBI, and a stolen base.

Campbell Wessels had a strong night as well, getting 2 hits and scoring twice with and RBI and stolen base in 4 at bats.

The Tigers 10-0 win improves them to 7-4 on the year and 2-1 in the Lakes Conference. Next up for Spencer will be a big challenge in Waukee at a Tournament in Fort Dodge on Friday.
