Spencer, IA (KICD)– The Spencer Tiger Marching Band is getting ready for a new season, this time under new leadership.

Jackson Smith took over the helm following the retirement of long-time High School Band Director Kurt Schwarck in the Spring but he is not exactly new to the Spencer program.

Smith says he has been able to see some big improvement in the group over his last two years despite most having to start from square one due to COVID.

Also, seeing the differences is senior Julia Gastellum who is a Field Commander for the third year after not having ever actually marched on the field herself.

Overall though, senior Sophie Munson says she has been able to learn a lot in her four years as part of the Spencer Tiger Marching Band, while also being able to carry some of those lessons with her into the post high school life.

This year’s show is centered around the Marvel Cinematic Universe with music from “The Black Panther”. Performances will take place at all football home games along with competitions in Algona and Sheldon.
