Storm Lake, Ia (KICD) – The Spencer Tiger Girls and Boys Track teams competed at the Lakes Conference Indoor Meet which also included the non-conference schools of Okoboji and MOC-Floyd Valley.
The day started off great for the Tiger Girls, who took 1st place in the 4x60m Shuttle Hurdle Relay. Coach Al Pierce was thrilled with the time.
Spencer’s Jerra Merchant would continue the success later with a dominant victory in the 60m Hurdles. Merchant said she prepared well for the race.
Other top performances for the Spencer Girls Track and Field team include Elliana Heisinger placing 2nd in the Girls Shot Put, the Girls Distance Medley Relay of Morey, Amendt, Piercy, and Vail placing 2nd, Peyton Morey taking 2nd in the 1500m run, and the 4x200m Relay team of Merchant, Piercy, Vail, and Amendt placing 1st.
Coach Pierce said it is always a fun track meet when the Spencer, Spirit Lake, and MOC-Floyd Valley girls teams do battle.
The Spencer Tiger Boys got a good showing from Kleb Cline who placed 1st in the Boys Shot Put with a toss of 47 feet 3 inches, his teamate Cole Cantrall would place 3rd with a throw of 41 feet 8 inches. Other top performances for the Spencer Boys include the Distance Medley Relay Team of Tigges, Berends, Carlson, and Tello placing 2nd, Keaton Stanzel placing 2nd in the 60 meter dash with teammate Miles Robbins right behind him in 3rd, and the 4×200 meter relay “A” team of Timmer, wessels, Carrillo, and Robbins placing first while the “B” team of Stanzel, Tigges, Hefner, and Berends was 2nd.
Weston Johnson would take 3rd in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.98, a time that coach Wilson Hookfin was very happy with.
Coach Hookfin talked about how this meet shows that the Tigers arn’t too far off from challenging Spirit Lake at the top of the Lakes Conference.
