Spencer, IA (KICD) — The Spencer United Way has been bequeathed roughly a million dollars to pass on to their member organizations. Donna Call currently serves as board secretary and says it’s a first in her twenty-six years as a volunteer.
Call says about a third of the money has already gone out. Grand Avenue Community Outreach was cut a check to with their ongoing mission.
The Hartley Improvement Foundation is also getting a hundred fifty thousand dollars for completion of a recreational trail. And the Red Cross is getting 52 thousand dollars.
The United Way Board is currently determining how to split up the rest of the money from the William Heerde Trust. The local United Way serves Buena Vista, O’Brien, Clay and Dickinson Counties.
