Spirit Lake, IA (KICD)– The Spirit Lake City Council met in special session on Friday to revisit a discussion from earlier this week regarding funding for a multi-million dollar, all-inclusive park project.

The idea of the Aspen-Seeman Park was originally presented late last year for a piece of land owned by Spirit Lake Community Schools that would require no funding from the district.

The special meeting was called following a heated debate on Tuesday between Councilman Kevin Bice and Keith Brockmeyer over whether or not the city should give the requested 400-thousand dollars being requested by the Spirit Lake Kiwanis Group for the project.

Bice was against such a high number sighting recent action by the Board of Supervisors that resulted in Dickinson County contributing 10 thousand dollars. That ultimately led to the council agreeing to match the county Tuesday, which was then affirmed on Friday on a three to two vote after a motion by Councilwoman Angela Kofoot to contribute 100 thousand dollars failed to get enough support.
