Spencer, IA (KICD)– What started as a bout of some needed rainfall turned into a busy Tuesday afternoon when it came to severe weather in parts of the local area.

It started as a fairly gloomy day after some locations picked up an inch or more of rainfall through the morning hours, but that rain was not nearly enough to keep the atmosphere from destabilizing in the early afternoon all thanks to some periods of sunshine.

It began in the noon hour when the Storm Prediction Center issued a tornado watch for all of Northwest Iowa which was followed less than two hours later by a series of tornado warnings in Sioux County that did eventually lead to a warning for a portion of Osceola County just based on the storm motion.

While that was all going on, Mother Nature was gearing up for a more interesting series of events on the other corner of the area in Pocahontas County as another group of tornado warnings was issued over the span of a little over an hour after trained spotters reported multiple brief touchdowns in almost a straight line from around Rockwell City up to the Rolfe area. That particular cell would also later lead to a couple of warnings being issued in Palo Alto, Emmet and Kossuth Counties before all was said and done.

Back to the northwest, what appeared to be a weakening cell quickly became more of a line of storms extending from around Slayton all the way down to Spencer which also resulted in brief tornado warnings being issued in Clay, Dickinson and Nobles Counties.

There were also multiple reports of small hail throughout the area with the complex of storms, but there have been no reports of damage caused by any of the severe weather.
