Storm Lake IA, (KICD) The City of Storm Lake has begun mandatory water conservation measures in a proclamation from the mayor dated June 24th.
The city’s water use has continued to grow to a point that it stresses the city’s capacity of storage and treatment facilities. This follows last week’s voluntary conservation measures, but due to the above normal use of water the city is still close to maximum capacity.
During the city’s mandatory conservation, the following provisions are in place. No home or commercial lawn or tree watering from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, no vehicle washing at residential properties, no power washing of homes buildings or concrete areas without cities approval, no refilling of pools without the city’s approval and no drinking water supply can be used for dust control or construction purposes without specific approval from the city.
If mandatory measures do not achieve the desired 20% reduction goal in water demand the mayor or city manager would, if necessary, proclaim a water emergency with stricter measures outlined.
