Sioux Falls, IA (KICD) — Sioux Falls-based POET Biorefining and Des Moines-based Summit Carbon Solutions announced an agreement this morning. POET would use the proposed carbon-capture pipeline to capture, transport, and store 4.7 million metric tons of CO2 annually, from all twelve faciltities in Iowa – including ones in Ashton and Emmetsburg – and its five plants in South Dakota.
Both companies say lowering the carbon score of ethanol production is good for the industry and will maintain a market for Iowa corn.
POET previously announced it would utilize the proposed Navigator Pipeline. That project was scrapped citing regulatory hurdles in Illinois and South Dakota.
Summit says it now has voluntarly easements for 75 percent of the land that would be affected by its 680 mile pipeline. They are asking the Iowa Utilities Board to enact eminent domain to force the rest of the owners to allow the structure to be buried under their property.
