The 4th of July is right around the corner and Iowa State Trooper Kevin Krull came in to talk about it .

July is historically one of the deadliest months of the year averaging at least one death per day. With more people out and about for the holidays means more people traveling on roads which gives a higher probability someone will make a mistake.

Iowa State Patrol Trooper Kevin Krull says part of what makes it so dangerous is people seem to get a little bit more carefree and the violation seems to go up and there’s more people around out and about.

Krull Explains how the 4th of July being on a weekday affects the number of incidents compared to a weekend.

While the police will be out in greater numbers during the 4th of July

holiday, drivers can help reduce incidents by keeping safety precautions in mind.

Iowa is off to a poor start in 2023 when it comes to the number of fatalities on the roads. As of Wednesday morning, Iowa was sitting at 158 deaths which puts us on a pace to be above the goal 300 by the end of the year.
