Pocahontas, IA (KICD)– Three people have been charged after leading law enforcement on a multiple county pursuit early Sunday morning.

A Deputy with the Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a speeding vehicle around 4:40 on Highway 4 north of Havelock but the driver reportedly accelerated reaching 100 miles per hour before turning onto a gravel road traveling at more than 90 miles per hour.

The driver is said to failed to stop at multiple stop signs and crossed into the oncoming lane on multiple occasions before police were able to successfully stop the vehicle using a PIT maneuver in Southeastern Clay County about a mile west of the Palo Alto County line.

The driver, identified as 30-year-old Braulio Hernandez of Ames was taken into custody and charged with eluding-second of subsequent offense, and driving while barred while also being cited for multiple traffic violations.

Two passengers in the vehicle, 34-year-old Denver Crumpton of Ruthven and 28-year-old Hayley Byerly of Spencer was also arrested on outstanding warrants.

The Pocahontas County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the pursuit by the Buena Vista, Clay and Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Offices as well as the Pocahontas and Laurens Police Departments.
