Northwest Iowa (KICD) — Friday was the deadline for candidates to file in Iowa’s June primary elections for both parties.
There’s one contested county race in Clay County: Sharon Johnannsen has filed as a Republican for one of two supervisor seats. Incumbents Art Hamrick and Randy Swanson have also filed.
Sheriff Chris Raveling and Auditor Ann Baschke are up for re-election and have no challengers.

There will be a changing of the guard in the Emmet County Sheriff’s office. Sheriff Mike Martens is NOT seeking a fifth term. The two, top-ranking members of the department have filed papers in the Republican primary: Chief Deputy Justin Schultes and Patrol Sergeant Jeff Merrill.
There are five candidates in the Republican primary for supervisor: Brandon Carlin, Lisa Hansen, Mike Pytelski, and Tim Schumacher. Incumbent Todd Glasnapp is unchallenged on the Democrat side.
Heidi Goebel – who was appointed Auditor when Amy Sathoff moved out of the county in October – has filed for that position in the Republican primary and does not have any challengers.

One incumbent supervisor in Dickinson County has a challenger, otherwise incumbents are unopposed.

Stephen Dullard of Spirit Lake has filed as a Republican to challenge Jeff Thee in district number 3. Democrat Tim Fairchild is unopposed in the 5th district. Incumbent Sheriff Greg Baloun, Incumbent Auditor Lori Pedersen, and Incumbent County Attorney Steven Goodlow are all unopposed as Republicans.

Iowa’s Primary is June 4th.
