Milford, Ia (KICD) – Okoboji hosted their Girls Wrestling Tournament on Friday night in Milford.
That is head coach of the Okoboji/HMS Girls Wrestling team Todd Gonnerman. The Pioneers placed 9th with 87 points. The Pioneers had four wrestlers place in the top 6 on the evening.
The Spencer Tigers put together a great evening, winning the Tournament with 201 points, comfortably ahead of 2nd Place Canton of South Dakota who had 178.
That’s Spencer coach Dave Storm. The Tigers had 9 wrestlers finish in the top 6, with Olivia Huckfelt and Shaylee Sutherland both picking up Championships.
Outside of Spencer, Sioux Central was the highest placing KICD area school, taking 8th, and according to coach Joel McCoy, it wasn’t the Rebels best night.
Sioux Central had 4 placewinners. Odola Cham took 4th at 145, and she said she was dealing with some asthma.
Nicole Hurd was also not very happy with her evening.
Emmetsburg had some nice individual performances, taking 15th as a team. Kylie Iverson won the 155lb Championship for the E-Hawks.
Emmetsburg coach Dan Hewitt says this was a good experience for the E-Hawks.
KICD area Wrestlers bringing home Championships were Spirit Lake/Park’s Cassie McKeen at 105, GTRA’s Trista Guinn at 115, Shaylee Sutherland of Spencer at 140, Kylie Iverson of Emmetsburg at 155, and Spencer’s Olivia Huckfelt at 235.
Spencer placed 1st with 201 points, Sioux Central was 8th with 88, Okoboji/HMS was 9th with 87, Spirit Lake/Park 13th, GTRA 14th, Emmetsburg 15th, and Sheldon/Sibley-Ocheyedan took 17th.
