Fonda, IA (KICD)– A Northwest Iowa nurse has been charged following an investigation into the death of a patient at Pocahontas County care facility.
According to Iowa Capitol Dispatch, 69-year-old Becky Manning of Lake View was working as an employee of GrapteTree Medical Staffing at the Fonda Specialty Care nursing home last year when she allegedly failed to suction the airway of a patient which ultimately led to his death.
An aide at the facility reportedly told investigators the 87-year-old patient had undergone a trachesotomy which required regular suctioning of his airway to keep it clear to which Manning refused after being asked by no less than four other staffers an undisclosed amount of time before the patient was pronounced dead.
Ptosecutors further allege Manning prevented other workers from calling for emergency assistance when it became apparent that the patient could not breathe.
Manning faces a felony charge of wanton neglect of a health care facility resident. She is yet to enter a plea, but has been released from custody after posting bond.
