Algona, IA (KICD) — The 1st degree murder trial for the man accused of killing an Algona Police officer last September has been moved to Dickinson County.

The attorney for Kyle Ricke argued it would be impossible for his client to get a fair trial in Kossuth County. Judge Nancy Wittenberg approved the request and moved proceedings to Spirit Lake.

Attorney Matthew Pittinger had also requested Wittenberg recuse herself because she previously presided over other cases involving Ricke and some of his family members. She turned down that request.

The trial is set to begin June 25th. Ricke is accused of shooting and killing officer Kevin Cram as Cram attempted to serve an arrest warrant.
