Sibley, IA (KICD)– The trial date for an Ashton man charged with arson earlier this year has had his trial pushed back.

33-year-old David Alvarez Jr. was arrested in February after the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a structure fire.

According to online court documents, Alvarez Jr. had lit it fire in the fireplace before allegedly using a broom to set ignition points in other areas of the house but was unable to give investigators a motive for the action.

Alvarez Jr. pled not guilty to the arson and criminal mischief charges in March and was originally scheduled to go to trial in June, but that was pushed back to August. Since then a pre-trial conference has been continued multiple times including a new motion filed Wednesday in Osceola County District Court.
