Rembrandt, IA (KICD) — Two empty poultry barns in Buena Vista County were destroyed by fire Thursday evening. The Sioux Rapids fire department was dispatched to a farm just North of Rembrandt at 6:18. At one point TWELVE fire departments were on the scene: Albert City, Alta, Aurelia, Cherokee, Newell, Peterson, Rembrandt, Royal, Spencer, Storm Lake, and Webb assisted. The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Department; Buena Vista and Cherokee Emergency Management; Ambulance crews from Storm Lake and Sioux Rapids; Pinestone Excavating was called in to help knock down walls; and Larson Oil came to refuel emergency vehicles., Nobody was injured, but Buena Vista County Emergency Management Director Aimee Barritt tells KICD News a trailer with air-conditioning was brought in so firefighters wearing their heavy gear had a place to cool off. There’s no immediate speculation on a case, and Barritt says it will be difficult to find one because of the extensive damage.
