Wahpeton, IA (KICD) — Two invasive plants have been discovered during regular monitoring of West Lake Okoboji. DNR Biologist Mike Hawkins says Eurasian Water Milfoil has been confirmed in the Wahpeton canals, Triboji Lagoon, and The Harbor. He’s hopeful it can be contained.

The more concerning discovery is the weed “Brittle Naiad” discovered near the Triboji Beach boat ramp.

Hawkins tells KICD News it’s up to boaters to prevent the spread of acquatic travelers, and says “Prevention Buys Time” against even worse infestations. He notes that Eurasian Water Milfoil has NOT been spotted on East Lake Okoboji this year after aggressive herbicide treatments last year.
