Des Moines, IA (KICD)– A warm last couple of days of September help push the entire month well above normal when it comes to temperature.

State Climatologist Justin Glisan says highs in the 90s that broke local records on both Friday and Saturday were quite common around the state.

From here though, we are going to want to buckle our seat belts and get ready for a bit of a wild ride of temperatures as we drastically cool down later this week with some frost even possible by Saturday morning which is actually a bit behind schedule.

When it comes to precipitation, most of the state was once again drier than normal with Spencer coming in more than two inches below average. The only area that did manage to be wetter than normal was part of Northeast Iowa that actually at one point in the month was sitting in the worst conditions measured on the U.S. Drought Monitor.
