Orleans, IA (KICD) — Despite internet rumors, there are NOT speed restrictions on the Iowa Great Lakes right now. Iowa DNR Fisheries Biologist Mike Hawkins says the water level is high, but NOT as high as it’s been in recent memory.
And despite the state of Iowa having jurisdiction over water bodies, Hawkins says it’s actually the Dickinson County Emergency Management Board that would declare a “No Wake Zone” if it comes to that.
However, Hawkins recommends voluntarily boating at slower speeds as a courtesy to homeowners whose docks and shorelines are prone to damage at high water levels.
