Spencer, IA (KICD)– Cold and flu season is right around the corner which means it is time to get caught up on the latest information surrounding respiratory illnesses.
Part of the respiratory talk this upcoming season will again be about COVID-19 as cases again are seeing a slight rise both nationally and locally, but Colette Rossiter from Clay County Public Health says many of the new cases are less severe than in the past.
Rossiter says very little has changed when it comes to testing and quarantine recommendations for COVID, but the federal government has once again began making home tests available by going to covid.gov/tests.
On a different front, she says there are some new vaccines available for those trying to avoid serious cases of flu or RSV this fall and winter.
It is worth noting that while COVID vaccines are still available at local clinics and pharmacies, it is no longer free of charge like it was at the height of the pandemic. Those looking for pediatric vaccines can also contact Public Health.
