Emmetsburg, IA (KICD) — One of the region’s most famous residents has passed away at the age of 83. Dave Nixon excelled in two careers. Former Spencer resident Jane Campbell worked with him in both. First: Nixon was a popular television anchor from the 1960s through the 90s.

Nixon then created the broadcasting program at Iowa Lakes Community College. Campbell and Nixon both applied for the same position at ILCC. The position was divided in two, and they wound up being co-workers again.

And from Emmetsburg, Nixon moved to Monroe, Michigan where he served as President of the community college for a full decade.

What impressed Campbell most, is that Dave and his wife Judy could have retired anywhere, but decided to return to Emmetsburg where they remained active in the community. Judy Nixon passed away three years ago.
