Lake City, IA (Radio Iowa)– A Northwest Iowa community will continue to be known for the pipe organs that are produced there as the long-time company decides to rebuild on the site of a devastating fire.
Dobson Pipe Organ has been operating out of temporary buildings in Lake City since the fire two years ago burned the shop to the ground. President John Panning says it might have been easier for the company to relocate to a more urban area after the fire, but the decision was made to stay with its roots in Northwest Iowa.
The building was not the only thing destroyed by the blaze. Around 20-percent of Dobson’s 99th organ was also inside at the time which led to the team starting over to get it ready to be installed in St. James Church in Sydney, Australia.
Dobson’s 100th pipe organ is also in the works and is expected to be installed at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia just in time for the school’s centennial celebration next year.
