Paullina, Ia (KICD) – South O’Brien and Emmetsburg managed to dodge the weather and get in an important non-conference matchup Thursday night in Paullina.  Matt Groenewold had the call for Big Country 107.7.

The Girls Contest started out the afternoon.  The E-Hawks got off to a slow start but would roll throughout the final 3 quarters.

It was Reese Farquhar leading South O’Brien with 9 points on the evening.  Kylie Hoffman scored 21 for Emmetsburg in the win.  The E-Hawks improve to 9-5 on the season while South O’Brien drops to 3-8.

The Boys game was up next, featuring 2 of the KICD 9-County Area’s best squads.

David Bottjen had a great night for the Wolverines despite the loss, scoring 27 points for South O’Brien.  Emmetsburg was led by Byron Maina with 20.  Emmetsburg is now 10-3 on the year with the win while South O’Brien takes only their second loss of the season at 8-2.

Next up for South O’Brien will be a War Eagle Conference contest at home against West Sioux while Emmetsburg hits the road for another tough contest against Manson-Northwest Webster.
