Spencer, Ia (KICD) – Many rosters have some spots to fill in 8-Player District 2 as we begin our Fall Sports Previews.
8-Player District 2 produced last season’s State Champion in Bishop Garrigan of Algona. Along with the Golden Bears, West Bend-Mallard was a playoff team, making a run to the second round where they fell in a close one to CAM 36-34. The top part of the District will have to turn rosters over while those that missed the playoffs bring a lot of production back.
That is Tyson Wirtz, head coach of the West Bend-Mallard Wolverines. Wirtz talked about some of the production that does return for the Wolverines.
Harris-Lake Park was the District’s 3rd playoff team, going 5-4 and losing to St. Mary’s of Remsen in the first round 52-23. The Wolves not only have a lot of new pieces getting varsity reps, but a new coach as well. Ross Wargula brings a lot of versatility to his first 8-Player coaching job.
Wargula talked about what he has seen in camp from Harris-Lake Park.
GTRA turned in a 3-5 season and bring back a lot of production from last season, especially at the skill positions. Todd Hough hopes that the experience from last year will help the Titans grow in to 2024.
Kasey Hough is back, likely at the Quarterback position again. As a sophomore, Hough completed 63.3% of his passes for 1,447 yards and 18 Touchdowns to 7 interceptions while running for 591 yards and 10 touchdowns. Coach Hough says the GTRA Quarterbacks carry a lot of weight.
