Spencer, IA (KICD) – The first round of golf is all wrapped up at the 102nd Northwest Am on the Spencer Golf and Country Club Course.
The day began with the final wave of first rounders at 6:30 Friday Morning. Algona’s Josh Manske, a former Northwest Amateur Champion, turned in a strong first round, scoring 5 under Par, which is good for a top 5 first round.
Manske talked about the mindset when playing in a long Tournament like the Northwest Am.
Officials are very pleased with the weather so far at the Spencer Golf and Country Club. Tournament Director Matt Conlon talked about the scores that had been put up in Round 1.
There is a good mixture of golfers taking up spots toward the top of the board.
One of those new names toward the top is he recent high school graduate from Cherokee Drew Spooner, who hit a round one best 63, good for 9 below Par. Spooner talked about what went well on the course.
This is Spooner’s second year in the Northwest Am. He talked about some of the things to keep in mind while playing the Spencer Golf and Country Club.
Spooner leads the way after the first round with 9 below Par, Brett Benson, the defending champ from Bird Island Minnesota is tied for 2nd with Edina, Minnesota’s Jack Wetzel at 7 below Par, Logan Schweinefus scored 6 below Par for 4th along with the Iowan Grant Smith.
