Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – We continue your Spring Sports Previews today with Girls Track and Field in the War Eagle Conference.
Hinton ran away with the Conference title last season. South O’Brien took 2nd, over 100 points behind the Blackhawks. Wolverines coach Mark Furhman believes the standings will look similar this year.
South O’Brien will host a number of meets over the course of the season. Furhman likes the competition they will see at these meets as they prepare for postseason Track and Field.
The transition from winter to spring sports can be difficult on some athletes. Jeremiah Delzer, head coach of the Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Girls Track and Field team talked about the Hawks approach to the first few weeks of practice.
Delzer believes in finding an A-lineup early in the season.
Harris-Lake Park may not have the deepest team in the area, but the roster is growing.
That is Matthew Mentink, head coach of the Wolves Girls Track and Field team. Mentink likes to maximize the individual success since they don’t have the roster numbers to challenge for team titles.
Northwest Iowa Now will be bringing you coverage of the South O’Brien Bird on April 1st, where H-LP, HMS, and MMCRU will attend from the War Eagle. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn and South O’Brien will be at the Lady Orab invitational on April 21st, another meet Northwest Iowa Now will attend.
Track and Field coverage can be found on X with @cutler4steven and @KICDSports as well as Spencer Media Group Facebook pages and Northwest Iowa Now.com.
