Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — The mayors of seven Clay County communities issued a statement over the weekend indicating they are in support of a county-wide Emergency Medical Services levy. The communication signed by mayors of Everly, Dickens, Fostoria, Peterson, Royal, Spencer, and Webb reads: “EMS must be funded, properly staffed, and well-equipped to meet the growing needs of our residents. By working together, advocating for essential resources, and the adoption of innovative, cost-effective solutions, we can ensure EMS remains a dependable lifeline for all residents in Clay County.”
The county’s EMS consultant – Dana Sechler released the findings of his study last week.

Seckler said hiring an EMS coordinator to help with scheduling and paperwork, and passing a .75 cent levy to help with funding would relieve pressure from volunteers.
Supervisor Chair Allen Batschelet says the board might vote to place the levy on a special election ballot at their May 13th meeting. It would then need 60 percent approval from voters to go into effect.
