Holstein, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – Ridge View hosted their Girls Wrestling Invitational on Saturday in Holstein. Spencer, Spirit Lake/Park, Sibley-Ocheyedan, Pocahontas Area, and Sheldon/South O’Brien attended from the KICD area.
Cassie McKeen of Spirit Lake/Park claimed the championship at 105. Spencer’s Madison Stickrod took 4th in that weight class.
Spirit Lake/Park also got a medalist out of Audrina Bennett who took 3rd on the day at 110.
Rylee Nehman of Spencer took 3rd at 120, beating Ridge View’s Eden Ferrusca in order to do so, someone Nehman lost to earlier in the week when the two teams met for a dual in Denison.
Spencer’s Breanna Johnson took 4th at 125, just ahead of Sibley-Ocheyedan’s Brooke Krogman who beat Aazilynn Felix of Manson-Northwest Webster in the 5th Place match.
Sibley-Ocheyedan got another medalist out of Grace Sayler who took 4th at 130 for the Generals.
Spencer’s Kyiah Logan navigated her way into the 135 Championship match where she lost to Kassidy Fiala of Lewis Central to take 2nd.
Pocahontas Area got a wrestler on the podium in Samantha Wolter at 140.
Spencer’s Shaylee Sutherland dominated the 145lb class to take 1st. Spencer coach Dave Storm says they need to be creative to get last year’s State Runner-Up some competition in the room.
The biggest win of the day out of the KICD area was Spencer’s Brooke Mart, upsetting a top 5 ranked and State Tournament regular Kaylee De Jong of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in the 235 Championship match to place 1st.
Coach Storm says Mart made a statement with the win.
Sheldon/South O’Brien’s Valerie Cook would place 4th at 235.
In the team scores, Lewis Central won with a dominant 203.5 points, Logan-Magnolia was 2nd with 178.5, and SWAT was 3rd with 149.
Spencer was just 2 points out of 3rd place in 5th with 147 points, despite wrestling with a limited lineup.
Spirit Lake/Park took 12th with 71.5, Sibley-Ocheyedan was 14th with 53, Sheldon/South O’Brien placed 18th with 31, and Pocahontas Area took 20th with 24.
