Wallingford, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — For the second time in four days the Wallingford Fire Department was called to the report of a grassfire headed toward farm buildings. Fire Chief Jarrod Fischer says it’s likely the fire at 2132 420th Avenue East of Wallingford likely would have reached a steel machine shed if the farmer – Matthew Richards – had not hooked onto a disk and help prevent the fire from spreading to Conservation Reserve acres and other nearby vehicles.
Estherville fire department was called for a backup but cancelled as the fire was quickly brought under control. Emmet County Sheriff’s Department and Emmet County Emergency Management did assist at the scene.
The fire was reported around 2:30 Tuesday afternoon and the firetrucks were there just a little over a half hour.
