Fort Dodge, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Class 1A and 2A State Qualifying Cross Country meets were held on Thursday. Newell-Fonda was at the Guthrie Center site for 1A.
The Mustangs qualified Danika Meyer and Quinn Severs for the State Meet as the two placed 8th and 9th with Meyer running 21:08.3 and Sievers clocking 21:08.4.
The Mustangs won the team Championship, advancing to State as a team with 42 points, edging out 2nd place Tri Center by 5.
Emmetsburg hosted a State qualifying site.
In the Girls race, Tyra Schupbach of West Bend-Mallard blew away the field with a 1st place time of 19:02.6.
Sioux Central qualified Sage Weber with a 3rd place time of 20:05.7 and Marley Madsen in 5th at 20:34.7.
Emmetsburg’s Rachel Schany is on her way to State with a 4th place time of 20:27.5.
Alexis Cummins of North Union advances to teh State meet after placing 6th with a time of 21:19.1.
Sibley-Ocheyedan went 8th, 9th, and 10th with Hope Irvin running 21:25, Mya Pohlen clocking 21:47.2, and Amadelaid Benitez running 21:49.1. All three move on to Fort Dodge in the State Meet.
On their way as a team will be Sioux Central who won the team title with 38 points. 2nd was Sibley-Ocheyedan who scored 50 points and advances as a team.
In the Boys race, Lucos Wernimont of Sioux Central qualifies individually with a 1st place time of 16:35.3.
Ben Cox of Emmetsburg also advances, running 17:33.4 to place 5th.
Landon Davenport of South O’Brien moves on after taking 6th at 17:35.6.
Sioux Central also advances Jack Christian who finished 7th at 17:45.2 and Landon Driver in 8th at 18:12.7.
In the team scores, East Sac County won with 33 points, edging out Sioux Central who scored 42. The Rebels move on to the State Meet in Fort Dodge.
Alta-Aurelia was in Jewell for their State Qualifying Site.
For the Girls race, Alta-Aurelia’s Hayden Berkland ran 20:37.0 to finish 8th and move on to the State Meet.
The Warriors will also advance as a team after taking 2nd with 85 points, beating out 3rd place St. Edmond of Fort Dodge by 9.
The Boys race had Jacob Launderville of Alta-Aurelia run 17:31.4 to finish 9th and qualify for State. Alta-Aurelia just missed qualifying as a team, 8 points back from 2nd place North Butler.
At the Class 2A Eagle Grove qualifying site, Okoboji’s Tyson Fear is on his way to the state meet with an 8th place time of 17:31.5. The Pioneer boys break through as a team as well, finishing 2nd with 95 points.
Other KICD 9-county Area 2As were at the Orange City site where Cherokee’s Grace Woodall moves on for the Girls, placing 9th at 2019.81. Also advancing is Spirit Lake’s Ella Beck who ran 20:42.7 to finish 14th.
In the Boys race, Spirit Lake’s Jace Hungerford took 2nd at 16:28.7. Sheldon pushes through Malakai Vermeer, who was 5th at 16:48.93 and Jayden Hegenbarth who took 7th at 16: 51.44. Spirit Lake also qualifies Carter Trautman who took 11th at 16:55.97. Sheldon’s Lewis Scheaffer was 15th and moves on with a time of 17:18.13.
Spirit Lake qualified as a team with 89 points in 3rd.
