Milford, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — A man claiming to be an illegal immigrant from Honduras is being held in the Dickinson County jail.

Milford police say they stopped a speeding vehicle Saturday night near the intersection of S Avenue and 13th Street, and the driver identified himself as 28 year old Edgar Lara, and that he is in the country illegally. Lara was outside of the vehicle when police were investigating the smell of marijuana, and reportedly attempted to flee on foot. He made it through several yards until authorities deployed a taser and took him into custody.

Lara has been charged with Interference with official acts, 1st offense possession of marijuana, having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, no valid driver’s license, and speeding.
Immigration and Custom Enforcement has also been informed.
