Spencer, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – News Radio 102.5 and AM 1240 KICD had coverage of Spencer and East of Sioux City in the Fieldhouse Tuesday night.

The Tiger Girls once again struggled to take care of the basketball. East jumped out to a 23-7 lead in the 1st Quarter. The Tigers were able to put together a decent 2nd quarter, only getting outscored 10-8 by the Black Raiders. East came out of the locker room strong, and the Three pointers began to fall as they grew their lead to 54-25 going into the final quarter. East would coast to a 67-27 win after holding the Tigers to only 2 points in the 4th Quarter.

Jaylee Jackson led East with 22 points. The Black Raiders got 23 points off the bench, including 10 from Freshman Kennedy Reynolds.

Spencer drops to 0-2 on the year while East begins the season at 1-0.

The East High Boys also had a big 1st Quarter, outscoring the Tigers 22-12 in the first 8 minutes. Spencer hit back though, scoring 16 second quarter points, at one point getting the Black Raider lead down to 5, but a quick 6-0 run by East finished out the half and Spencer trailed 39-28 at the break. After halftime, it was all Black Raiders, as they outscored Spencer 28-7 in the 3rd Quarter, then 15-5 in the 4th, winning the game 82-40.

East had 4 players in double figures, led by Fami Yusuf, who had 19 off the bench for the Black Raiders.

Cael Bruning led Spencer with 21 points in the loss.

East of Sioux City advances to 1-0 while Spencer drops to 0-1.

Next up for the Spencer Girls is a home game against Western Christian on Thursday. The Spencer Boys will travel to Fort Dodge with the girls’ team on Friday.

Both East of Sioux City teams will head downtown to play Bishop Heelan of Sioux City.
