Spirit Lake, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – The Spencer Girls and Boys Basketball teams visited Spirit Lake on Thursday night to open up Conference play for the Tigers.
The Spencer Girls gave Class 3A #5 Spirit Lake all they could handle.
Spirit Lake used a 15-6 4th quarter to pull away and win 55-48.
Claire Turner scored 10 points in the 4th quarter, finishing with 18 while Sydnee Hopkins led Spencer with 14.
Spencer now falls to 4-7 on the year with the loss and 0-1 in the Conference while Spirit Lake improves to 10-0 and 3-0.
The Spencer Boys were tied with Spirit Lake at the half but would be outscored in the 2nd half 34-13.
Wesley Walz scored 24 with 20 of those points coming in the second half for Spirit Lake. Dylan Stecker had 23.
Cael Bruning led Spencer with 22 points.
The 73-52 win improves Spirit Lake to 6-2 on the year and 2-1 in the Lakes while Spencer falls to 6-3 and 0-1.
Spirit Lake will be in Sioux Falls for a couple of games on Saturday.
Spencer Boys go to Mason City on Monday to play Decorah. The Girls will be back in action on Tuesday against Estherville Lincoln Central.
