Alta, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — Two individuals have died following a two-vehicle collision near Alta in Buena Vista County Tuesday afternoon. Sheriff Kory Elston says 76-year-old Ellen Stevens of Alta was Southbound on 60th Avenue and pulled into the path of a Westbound vehicle driven by 59-year-old Stephan Baxter of Alta. Baxter was pronounced dead at the scene. Stevens and her passenger, 79-year-old Leroy Stevens, were taken by ambulance to the hospital in Storm Lake. Leroy Stevens was transferred to Mercy in Sioux City where he later passed away.

The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Storm Lake Police, Alta Fire Department, and Storm Lake Ambulance.

The accident occurred shortly after 4pm.
