Ruthven, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) – Get ready for a weekend of fun! The annual Bully Bullhead Weekend, hosted by the Lost Island-Ruthven Betterment Association (LIRBA), is underway from today, Friday, July 11th, through Sunday.
The festivities begin this afternoon with the Iowa State Bank’s Pork Patty Cook-Out from 4-6 PM in their parking lot, featuring entertainment by the Daybreak Band.
The weekend is packed with activities, including city-wide garage sales, the Brian Waldstein Memorial Run, and kids’ activities like live animals and inflatables. Saturday highlights include a parade at 1:30 PM, a bags tournament, and the Fireman’s Dance with the Tank Anthony Band.
Sunday offers a breakfast and bake sale with the American Legion, a bullseye trap shoot, and the Fishing Contest awards. The Bully Bullhead Fishing Contest offers cash prizes for the heaviest fish in multiple categories, including bullhead, perch, bluegill, catfish, northern, largemouth bass, crappie, yellow bass, and even largest carp.
Bull Bullhead Weekend is held annually to celebrate the way of life in Ruthven and Lost Island area, and the natural resources.
