Cherokee, IA (Northwest Iowa Now) — The trial for a Cherokee man accused of first-degree murder in the death of his four-month-old song will be moved out of Cherokee County. Luis Contrerras-Deciga, 25, plead not guilty in January of the murder charge, and waived his right to a speedy trial. In May 2024, infant was found unresponsive while in Contrerras-Decigas care and later died from head injuries at a hospital. The autopsy ruled the death a homicide. The next hearing will be held virtually on March 14th.
