Cherokee, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) Today Cherokee Regional Medical Center announced it is expanding its footprint further into O’Brien County, acquiring the MercyOne Family Medicine Clinic in Primghar. The official handover takes place December 27th, with plans to reopen the doors as the “Primghar Medical Clinic” the week of December 29th.

Cherokee Regional officials say they look forward to providing healthcare access for the Primghar community.

Sutherland also has a Cherokee Regional Clinic as of 2024.

Current patients will receive information on transferring their care later next month.

The hospital in Primghar was owned by MercyOne Medical since 2000, but permanently closed its doors in September 2024, citing economic difficulties and staffing shortages.
