Spencer, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — At the February 4th meeting, the Clay County Board of Supervisors approved joining the Little Sioux Watershed Project with Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship, effective January 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027.
Clay County agreed to act as the fiscal agent and manager, and will handle hiring watershed project coordinator, hiring consulted engineers, managing contracts with consultants, leading construction bid letting, and manage contractors. Clay County will also provide office space, internet connection and other admin services for the watershed project manager.
The Watershed Protection Program was enacted in 1999 and provides technical and financial assistance for the development and implementation of local watershed initiatives. Clay County will have access to new technologies and evaluation processes, and access to assistance grants.
