Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — 2026 was the 50th and final year for Jones lunch counter at the Clay County Fair. Deb Jones married into the family that took over the fixture in 1976.

The Jones’ decided to slow down several years ago but wanted to make it to half a century. As the last sandwich was served on Sunday, Jones told KICD News it was a bittersweet day.

Next year Alex and Deb Jones say they look forward to attending the Clay County Fair to take in the shows, livestock judging, and to sit on the other side of the lunch counter.
