Storm Lake, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNow.com) — Local authorities are urging residents to be on the lookout for counterfeit money after a recent incident.
On Tuesday, May 20th, Storm Lake Police were called to Casey’s convenience store at 207 East Milwaukee Avenue regarding a fake bill. Following an investigation, police allege that surveillance footage from May 19th shows 39-year-old Berdinant William Jr. of Storm Lake, using a counterfeit $100 bill to buy merchandise.
William Jr. turned himself in to the Storm Lake Police Department yesterday, May 28th, around 11:30 AM. He has been charged with Forgery, a Class D Felony. William Jr. was taken to the Buena Vista County Jail and is currently being held on a $5,000 bond.
Police remind the public to be cautious when handling cash, especially larger bills. If you suspect you’ve received a counterfeit bill, do not try to spend it. Instead, contact your local law enforcement agency immediately.
