Spencer, Iowa (NorthwestIowaNOw.com) — “Safe Streets and Roads for All” awards federal funding to implement safety action plans. Clay, Buena Vista, and Pocahontas counties jointly applied for the grant, and were awarded 6.9 million in federal funding. Clay County Engineer Cole Budach says the county has to match 20% locally, but this cost-effective safety alternative with save 2.5 million dollars locally.

Improvements planned include B24, east of the East Beltway, and will include 4-foot paved shoulders, rumble strips, realigning the 280th Avenue intersection to 90 degrees, and adding speed-activated light chevrons on curves.

Budach informed the Clay County Board of Supervisors January 6th and now awaits final agreement instructions from the Federal Highway Administration.
