Spencer, IA (Northwestiowanow.com) — Spencer Mayor Steve Bomgaar says seeing coverage of the hurricane damage hits him harder than it did just a few months ago.
Following the June 22nd flood, the Federal Emergency Management Agency sent a team to Spencer to open cases. Standard procedure is to close in 60 days, but due to the magnitude of destruction in Spencer it was extended an additional 60 days to October 22nd.
Spencer Human Resources Director Jessica Wright says most federal employees will pull out on schedule, but that a skeletal crew will be left behind.
FEMA will continue to rent city hall council chambers for office space.
Tomorrow is another important date for individuals who suffered property damage! October 15th at 4pm is the deadline for applications for the Clay County Flood Recovery Grant through the Spencer Chamber Foundation. Starting Wednesday the remaining funds will be shifted to long-term recovery efforts.
