Sioux Center, Ia (Northwest Iowa Now) – For the second consecutive year, the Dordt Women’s Basketball team claimed an NAIA National Championship.
Head coach of the Defender Women, Bill Harmsen, joined the KICD Sports Beacon to talk about the season, his athletes, recruiting, and community.
Harmsen said there was some uncertainty at the beginning of the season with some injuries and young players seeing a lot of action.
Harmsen says the team seemed to only get stronger the deeper into the season the Defenders got.
Dordt is a heavy recruiter of the Northwest Iowa Area. Of the 17 on their varsity roster, 10 of them come from this part of the state.
One of those Northwest Iowa Women is former Newell-Fonda Mustang Macy Seivers. Seivers won GPAC and NAIA player of the year honors in a season where Harmsen says she took a big step.
Harmsen talked about how involved his athletes are in the community.
